Her students describe her as funny, crazy (in a proficient way!) and supportive. Gabby is also a member of the VBFS Diversity Commission.

Devin became a teacher so that she could share her love of language, culture, and travel! Her passion for culture permeates her classroom in her exuberant teaching style. Devin is oftentimes known for being the ""school mom,"" making connections with the students that far outlast the classroom. She was previously the Child Youth Program Banana at the Portsmouth Kid Development Eye and the Newport, RI Kid Evolution Center. Rayna is thrilled to become to know the lower schoolhouse students and help develop their private learning styles.

While being a stay-at-home mom, Sarah became Secretary of a local chapter "mom'south club", and eventually was voted President. Her responsibilities were to seek out and plan fun and engaging events for children. Now with both of her children enrolled at Friends, Theo is enrolled in the Pre-Kindergarten program, she was hired to exist the Director of Commencement Adventure's at Friends, an infant through iv twelvemonth erstwhile grown up and me programme. The program was planned to begin in the fall of 2020, but with the pandemic, VBFS had to delay the countdown year of the program until this past Spring! She embraces the Suzuki Method and Every Kid Can and believes that, when nurtured, every child can reach peachy things. Courtney is an avid reader and lover of books. Starting in Elementary school, she made the Library her home away from habitation. Now as the VBFS Librarian, she hopes to instill that same love and passion for reading in each and every Friends School student.  Courtney has rebuilt the library program into a special class that aids students in learning the foundations of stories, and to develop the disquisitional thinking skills needed to isolate and empathise many different concepts. Danny Grondin is a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Danny began his career at Friends Schoolhouse equally a soccer double-decker and PE teacher well over a decade ago. Throughout his time at Friends, Danny has taught classes in every division and served in a variety of leadership roles within the school community. However, Danny's real passion is teaching history and government with a dedication to developing responsible and engaged global citizens. Danny is committed to the conventionalities that our students are the future of the earth and as such the ripple event teachers create can be endless. Rachel Griffith

Rachel has worked in horticulture for over twenty years, beginning at the Norfolk Botanical Garden and before long as the Mural Coordinator at Erstwhile Dominion University. She has a passion for Quaker education and the project-based, experiential learning model at VBFS. Candice enjoys coming to school everyday, where she sees her daughter, Charleston, abound every bit a educatee and a community citizen. Charleston is currently enrolled at VBFS in beginning grade. Marissa is excited to join the VBFS family unit as the new Kindergarten teacher!  She graduated from Lynchburg College with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and has been working with children ages infant to kindergarten for over 12 years.  Marissa has worked in a variety of settings, from military bases to not-profit organizations, and has served many dissimilar types of families throughout her career.  In 2017, she was awarded Teacher of the Year from Washington FAMILY Mag.  She moved to Virginia Beach 2 years agone from Northern Virginia, where she grew up.  Marissa loves working with young children and believes that children learn best through active exploration.


Nicolette McGrath

First/Second Grade Teacher

Nicolette comes to Friends School from pedagogy at the Manor Schools in Virginia Beach. Prior to the Manor Schools, Nicolette was a tenured K-6 educator in the Chula Vista, CA school district where she taught multiple class levels to diverse groups of students each year. Nicolettte'southward passion is teaching reading and writing to our immature minds and creating a beloved for reading through daily read-alouds. Nicolette focuses on creating a safe learning environment for lifelong learners where students collaborate together in meaningful means and mistakes are welcomed and embraced as they are one of the many ways of how we acquire! Nicolette encourages students to have a growth mindset and inspires her students to achieve their full potential through engaging curriculum and promoting a joy of learning!

Kaleigh is our new Learning Specialist for the 21-22 schoolhouse yr! Kaleigh has ever loved working with children of all ages and abilities. Since then, she has continued to learn with the Friends school SPICES instilled within her. She began her collegiate career at George Mason University studying psychology and childhood evolution. While dedicated to her studies at that place, she started working with college-aged students with developmental and intellectual disabilities as a specialized tutor, helping students to reach their highest academic potential. In her senior year of college, she shifted gears a fleck and started working as a Registered Behavior Therapist for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In this position, she truly found her passion for working with children with learning and behavior challenges.

The families that Kaleigh has worked with over the years describe her equally someone who is energetic, intuitive, and supportive. She knows how to accomplish and connect with children of all ages and abilities, and understands that collaboration with families and teachers is imperative to learning. Christian joins Friends School as the new first and second course teacher! We are thrilled to have her enthusiasm and expertise at VBFS equally our program grows! Christian was previously a special pedagogy teacher at King George Public Schools and Stafford Canton Public Schools Jail Plan. Most recently, she was employed at the Williams School every bit a substitute teacher, extended day assistant and Army camp Williams counselor. She is also a former basketball game and swim bus!  Additionally, Christian also holds a teaching license in Yard-12 Special Teaching, General Curriculum. Barbara is a seasoned educator with over twenty years of education science in independent schools across Hampton Roads.


Megan Murphy

Middle School English Teacher and All-School Drama Instructor

Degree: B.F.A. Emerson College

Megan Murphy graduated Cum Laude from Boston's Emerson Higher and holds Virginia teaching certifications for Pre-Yard through 3rd Grade and Centre School English language. Prior to her arrival at Friends, Megan owned The Children's Academy for the Arts, a performing and creative arts university for children. Megan was the recipient of both an ALLI and a Governor'south Award for the Arts for her piece of work with Hampton Roads children. Megan currently teaches English in the centre school. She is also the school's drama instructor. Over the years, she and her family unit have written and produced several musicals for Friends School students. Megan is an agile leader at the school; she has coached the school forensics teams for more x years and headed numerous fundraisers on behalf of the Friends School community. For one fundraiser, Megan actually slept on the roof of the Early on Schoolhouse building! In addition to her work in the classroom, Megan enjoys creating art and spending time with her family.

Lindsey has 9 years of experience with pre-kindergarten students. Before coming to Friends School, Lindsey was employed at the ODU Children's Learning and Research Center. Lindsey is thrilled to exist at VBFS and her son Stonemason is enrolled at VBFS in the Pre-Kindergarten program.


Tieshia Ridley

Lead Cottage Teacher

Dafna Sonnenthal is a career educator who has worked with children and adults in primary, secondary, and college level programs. She is a certified licensed educator for third through 6th class, and for educational activity English as a second language for pre-kindergarten through twelfth course. She has taught in inner-city public schools as well as at 1 of the nation's oldest private academies. A highlight of her early career was having Queen Elizabeth visit her classroom in Miami to showcase her English as a 2nd Language students and curriculum. DeeDran Talbert

Guidance Counselor and Director of Student Life and Diversity

B.S. Spoken communication Pathology and Audiology and Human Services Counseling, Former Dominion University

Dee has worked with children and young adults ages 5- 21 for more 20 years providing community-based services to ensure at risk families are able to acquire the necessary skills to go along the family unit intact. She has also worked with Hampton Roads Public schools to provide counseling and case management services to students who were at risk of losing their educational placement due to mental health and/or behavioral issues.  Instructor Dee is a strong advocate of Social Emotional Didactics and believes stiff social skills are essential to academic and life success. Her personal passions include attending spoken word performances and writing brusk stories and essays. Our pupil population is then fortunate to have her caring heart and knowledgeable insight.


Roberta Watt

Part Manager

Roberta is the best Office Manager around. She doesn't just work for one administrator, she works for multiple and she does and so beautifully! Roberta has worn many hats at VBFS since 2011 - subbing as a teacher's assistant, school purchasing and helping the front end role. She too assisted in the Business organisation and Development Role. Equally a Friends School parent, her daughter Courtney graduated in 2015. She moved to Virginia Beach from New York; and worked 25 years for Lillian Vernon as a Supervisor, Managing director of Quality Call handling, and 2 years as an accounting associate for an Apartment Community.

She has completed various classes for business organization leadership through Tidewater Community College and attended many workshops on leadership roles for women and telephone skills. In her spare time, Roberta enjoys cooking, inventing spice blends and travelling when she can. Mostly, her role as a mom to a law educatee is the about rewarding!


Sarah Wright

Kindergarten Banana Teacher

Pursuing A.Southward. degree in Unproblematic Didactics from Tidewater Community Higher, Anticipated Completion; December 2022

Sarah joined VBFS as the Kindergarten Assistant Teacher in the autumn of 2020! She brought with her three years of early childhood teaching experience from St. Gregory the Great School. She enjoys getting to know her students and finding their passions and abilities to enable them to focus on developing their gifts. Sarah instills the Quaker Principles into her educational activity, specifically helping children find their "inner low-cal", and their peers' "inner lite" as well.
